Carolyn Kouri, Tucker Room

Carolyn has always been passionate about the arts, which led her to pursue a B.A. in Studio Art from Carleton College. She integrated this passion into her service as a Peace Corps education volunteer in Mozambique following her graduation. Returning to Washington, D.C. after this experience, she furthered her education at The George Washington University, earning an M.Ed. in Art Education. Carolyn continued to grow her knowledge while serving as a middle school art educator for ten years at Alice Deal Middle School, followed by two years as Dean of Culture, where she focused on building a strong community with students and colleagues.

Carolyn, her husband, and their two children recently returned from living overseas in Dakar, Senegal, where she spent three years teaching English to a range of age groups, including early elementary, high school, and adults. During this time, she also made space for painting, ultimate frisbee, rock climbing, and, of course, building lasting friendships with people from all over the world. Inspired by her children’s international experiences, Carolyn felt drawn to early childhood education, leading her to earn a second teaching license in this age group. She is excited to connect with children and families and is looking forward to a wonderful year!
